This is a great photo of the Hungarian masters together.
When I was in school, I recorded the Summer Festival Orchestra performing the Dances of Galanta conducted by a Hungarian former student of Kodály, Arpad Joó. That recording became the centerpiece of my Upper Divisional presentation for the Recording Arts degree program and led to the opportunity to record Joó’s Mahler III for the IUSOM label (and a Four Seasons with Joó and Corey Cerovsek for use by the Marriott hotel chain, my first paid professional sessions).
At any rate, with a reasonable discography of professional recordings behind me now, that performance and the document I managed to make of it still resonate in my memory (and on my B&Ws) as one of my favorite musical experiences.
